Using remote controls to Hack Furby

I've had some success using remote controls to get Furby to react in different ways.  I started out using a WebTV universal remote to do my dirty work, but I moved on to a more complicated device... I've built a CIR infrared decoder/transmitter.  Basically, CIR is a device that you connect to your computer's serial port to intercept codes sent from an IR remote(or a furby).  See my CIR-HowTo page for details on that.  When I get some concrete data from CIR, I'll post it at the hackfurby site.

In the meantime, the results from the WEBTV remote are here, as well as submissions from others on the web.

WEBTV Universal Remote

My results from using a WEBTV Universal Remote.  You may have similar results using Universal Remotes or the brands of controls that WebTV can emulate.
The INIT reaction refers to the first few words the furby speaks when he is reset, including his name.

Laptop IR Port 'I've been interfacing with my laptop's IR port.  I can detect the "Are you there" signal, and it appears to be quite simple.  I can get him to yawn almost continuously using one of my remote controls, and sneeze continuously using another one.  But only once have I gotten any major  reaction from the IR port. He started talking and was just like a three year old (wouldn't stop), but I couldn't get it to happen again.  I'm just not on the right frequency yet.  I suspect the stop bits are preventing me from getting out the pure signal I need.'
